I am one with the Tao. The Force is with me.

Another year, another existential crisis.

I don’t want to toot my own horn here, but I feel I gave a lot of myself in 2016.

On the whole, I would say I gave more of myself to others than I received in kind. I am not referring to material assets – to the disdain of many a girlfriend – I mean emotionally and psychologically. I didn’t do it on purpose, I enjoy giving myself to help others. It isn’t a bad thing I suppose. Most of the time, one’s generosity is repaid in kind. The majority of people will not take advantage of generosity. The majority of people…

2016 has taken its toll on me, and it would be no exaggeration to say that I am currently damaged goods.

Since this is a new year, I have resolved to change this behavior slightly. In 2017, I will not be shy in asking for what I want, and acting in a way that benefits myself, or for that matter, rejecting what I don’t want or don’t think I deserve. I will not do this to the exclusion of others, however. It is just about not being overly polite; not putting everyone else’s needs before my own.

Have you ever heard about the very airy-fairy ‘law of attraction’?

It is held by some wackos that your physical worldly circumstances are attributed to your internal state of mind. Has anyone else read The Secret? Geezuz, right? Anyways, that book talks about quantum physics, but I am pretty sure the author knows as much about QP as I do, which is to say, nothing. There was one other scientific study done in 2005, on some monkeys though… (sound of crickets, anyone?) …That study found “mirror neurons” exist in our brains, as well as monkeys, that make us mirror the behaviour of what we observe. Like contagious laughter I suppose.

I write this with a condescending tone, but I am one of those wackos. I believe in the philosophy of it all, if not the scientific studies. A much cooler analogy is the Force. Yes, The Force. Espoused as original rhetoric by George Lucas in his Star Wars stories, but is just Chinese Taoism – almost a literal translation, in fact.

I am one with the Tao. The Tao is with me.

Anyways, it’s not far off from what I am aiming to achieve this coming 12 months. Asking for more things, and believing I deserve it.

My first request: six pack abs. #sixpackabs #kiddingnotkidding

Dare to reach out, dare to go after those goals. Dare to be good enough.

** Side note: Lucas did a really good job of making the Tao so awesome.
